When I looked at my bag of Snyder’s Honey Mustard and Onion Nibblers I had a moment where I thought we had already reviewed them and I had mistakenly purchased them. I remembered, however, that Greg had reviewed the Honey Mustard and Onion Pretzel Pieces. I would have eaten them either way, but now I had something to compare them to.
The first thing that came to my mind is how would Snyder’s Honey Mustard and Onion Nibblers differ from “pretzel pieces?” Well, the nibblers can be best described as little, thick round pretzels (like a pretzel Combo snack)whereas the pieces are just what it sounds like, what you would get if you bought a bag of giant pretzels, smashed them up and then decided to eat them.
When looking at our original review, I also saw that friend and guest poster Nicole from Cooking with Coley, had commented that the nibblers weren’t as good as the pieces and upon completion of my review, I had to agree with her. The bag smelled very mustardy which was a good sign. The nibblers themselves almost looked like little hot dogs, the tops of each were cracked open and you could see the mustard seasoning inside.
Upon our first bite of Snyder’s Honey Mustard and Onion Pretzel Pieces we were impressed with a nice crunch and tasty mustard, however, after bite number one the flavor disappears like a Houdini trick. This was quite unfortunate because all that you were left with is a hard, no seemingly bland mini round pretzel which wasn’t nearly as tasty for bites two and three. The bag does actually say “lightly seasoned” but it was a bit too light for us.
The onion flavor was very mild and although we were pleased with the not-overly-tangy mustard flavor, the disappearing flavor trick was disappointing. As a result we had no choice but to give these an average score and say if you are looking for some Honey Mustard Pretzel goodness, try the aforementioned Pretzel pieces. If you prefer sweets, don’t forget the Peanut Butter and Chocolate Pretzel option.
