Although not a global staple like Lays Potato Chips, Wise are an East Coast chip that you can find at any local store. They make some great snacks and when I got my hands on the large bag of Wise Onion and Garlic chips, I was looking forward to a tasty snack. I was shocked, however, when I opened the bag my mouth dropped at how empty it was. I’d say it was close to a third full and I even had to take a picture because it felt so empty.  Lack of chips aside though, how would the onion and garlic chips taste?

Unlike most onion chips I’ve had, Wise Onion and Garlic did not have any noticeable green “flakes” on them. In terms of the chips themselves, they are almost as thin as a Lay’s chip, but not nearly as greasy. The bag did not have any smell coming from it, which left me and some friends helping with the review skeptical as to how they would fare.

The chips themselves had a nice crunch, but there seemed to be absolutely no flavor on them whatsoever.  We’ve had our share of mild and not so mild snacks here at Munchies Blog, but these had almost zero flavor. At first you get a bit of a potato-y flavor which – when you eat multiple chips together – is followed by a hint of onion and garlic, followed by a salt & hint of onion aftertaste. Most of the group I ate these with probably wouldn’t have been able to tell the difference between these and a plain bag of chips: not a good sign for a chip that is supposed to combine two strong flavors.

With a bright green bag that has a garlic and onion right on the front, I had much higher hopes for Wise’s Onion and Garlic Chips. I can’t recommend buying these for taste, and I would feel bad telling someone to buy any snack that feels like it is severely lacking in the price to food ratio. As such, these get a boring grade and a recommendation to put your money towards some of our top rated snacks that can be found at a similar price.

I better make my own chips. I know I can find some recipes for that.

Unlike most comments, I really love Wise Onion & Garlic Potato Chips, I brought a bag of the wise onion & garlic potato chips, to my surprise it was a plain bag of greasy chips…..no flavor, i mean no onion, garlic, salt…nothing…needless to say, I am very disappointed, i feel inspection has fell or was not done

Though their chips are usually tasty, sometimes you get a dud bag that’s plain chips. I don’t know how/why this happens – somebody at quality control is sleeping on the job, I guess.

  4. not what the used to be says:

In the olden days I was willing to eat a bag of Onion Garlic Chips and put up with a day of bad breath. Loved them.
They certainly lost the kick over the years, more like wimpy sour cream and onion.
Did they lose the recipe or did some wimp “improve” them?
