The Better Chip Red Pepper and Salsa Fresca come in a high quality bag with a similar design to others we have seen from the company. The first whiff of the bag gave an aroma of tomatoes and maybe a hint of Bell pepper (one of the main ingredients) and I was eager to dive in to the bag and give them a go.
The chips themselves are very red and actually have real bell peppers and onions inside. I can imagine someone, more likely some machine, rolling the tortillas with diced peppers in them lovingly for my consumption. The first bite welcomed a mix of flavors that has a lot of emphasis on the salsa. Unlike the Better Chip Jalapeno (link) we tried, these actually didn’t have much of a pepper taste, but the overall mix was quite enjoyable.
Better Chip Red Pepper and Salsa Fresca are red, but unlike most standard chips it really didn’t look or feel as artificial which was a welcome change. The ingredients also included many actual vegetables on them which is always nice to see, especially on a chip that is supposed to be better and healthier for you. When you think Tortilla chips you usually think dips and the bag suggests having them with dips or a soup/salad and I personally think the latter would be a more realistic option as they have a lot of flavor already which is a good thing.
Compared to the Jalapeno chips, Better Chip Red Pepper and Salsa Fresca were more enjoyable for our tastes overall and we would recommend them to someone looking for a light snack that doesn’t make you feel gross afterwards. Our only complaint is that the bag felt a bit empty, but I guess that is also good for people trying to stay healthy!
