Sensible Portions make it quite clear their multi-grain crisps are a healthy snack. From the name of the brand, to the use of “crisps” down to the baked label on the bag, which also mentions they have no soy, wheat or milk, and are “all natural!” the question isn’t whether these are bad for you, it’s whether they will taste any good.
When opening the Tomato Basil Sensible Portion Multi Grain crisps, the smell from the bag is quite inviting. With a rich pasta sauce resemblance, heavy on the tomato and basil of course, we were instantly drawn to the snack.
The crisps themselves are very thick and resemble mini pitas. They are nicely seasons and very airy. The basil flavor is the welcome mat to the snack and it is followed by a pleasant tomato and pepper finish. Some of the tomato basil crisps lacked seasoning and the snack itself had a sort of cardboard like flavor, very bland, but this was pretty rare. Like other snacks we’ve tried, we found ourselves oddly addicted to the taste of these crisps.
In terms of health, they do include Vitamins A and C, along with some calcium (although less than the Utz Kettle Cooked Chips we reviewed not long ago). They also leave no residue or grease on your hands which, in our line of work, is absolutely shocking. Their lack of soy, wheat or milk ingredients is great for folks with allergies and if you like rice cakes than these should fill a similar need, but taste much better.
Would I personally choose them over a bag of more basic chips? Probably not, however as far as healthy snacks go, these definitely stood above the rest. We give them a recommended rating for you healthy snack seekers out there, and even if you aren’t looking for a super healthy snack, you could do a lot worse than these guys.
