After really enjoying Kurkure’s Naughty Tomatoes I was honestly looking forward to trying their Desi Beats Flirty Lime snack (which feature MTV prominently on the bag for some reason as well). Although I had already been burned once by lime flavored chips, the thought of tasty Tostitos with a hint of lime had me hoping that lime could return to the good side of chip flavors. Unfortunately, the only things these made me want to flirt with was a glass of water to stop the burning.
I’m not sure at what point it was decided that lime is a suitable or tasty flavor for chips, especially with a spicy combo of some sort, but it seems more and more folks want to try it. When I opened the bag I was welcomed with a nice curry smell which had me intrigued. Like the Naughty Tomatoes, these chips are made for local tastes and apparently some people enjoy the taste of Pine Sol because that is the best flavor I could come up with to describe what these taste like.
Adding insult to injury is a really spicy kick at the finish that lasted a good five minutes and rendered it pretty much impossible for me to be able to eat an entire bag (or half bag for that matter). At least the bag is honest, it describes Flirty Lime Desi Beats as having an “irresistible hit of your familiar Indian pickle spices and a true ‘desi’ experience,” an I experience I was apparently not suited for. The wheat chips tasted like pepper, spice and pickled something. You could definitely feel the chili and pepper along with a bit of ginger. Their high level of crunchiness was a redeeming factor at least.
As you can imagine we have no place to put this snack but in the unique category. If you like spicy artificial lemon then we have another great choice for you aside from Lion Chips. Desi Beats Flirty Lime are a reminder that different people worldwide enjoy different types of snacks . If you happen to love these chips, definitely let me know in the comments!
