We enjoyed but weren’t thrilled about the standard Deep River Snacks chips we tried. Could this bright yellow bag of Rosemary & Olive oil chips differentiate kettle chips enough? With a rosemary odor seeping out of the just opened bag, it seems we were going to taste a more refined chip we were looking forward to the “serious flavor” the bag promised.
The main thing that held back the first Deep River Snacks we tried was that the flavor was very mild. With a strong rosemary smell we could tell this wouldn’t be a problem with the Deep River Snacks Rosemary and Olive Oil. We were also looking forward to a chip that would perhaps feel healthier thanks to olive oil.
With a hearty crunch these are very well done kettle cooked chips. They actually include olive oil along with several other types of oil on the back and you could definitely feel the grease, but this is common with this style of the chip. The taste, however, was what we were really trying to focus on.
The nice thing about these chips was that the taste of rosemary along with a garlic flavor (thanks to not-listed garlic powder found in the ingredients) was just about perfect. It is a nice enough flavor that you can really enjoy them alone (in fact they were quite addictive), but they would also go very well as a side. They would even mix well with a dip, making them a truly versatile chip, which can be hard to find but means you can please a group with different preferences.
If you see a bag of these they will definitely satisfy your needs. The only thing keeping them from being a must munch is that they nicely work with everything, but seem a half-step away from a plain chip when it comes to the taste.
