As a big fan of LOST, I’ve been trying for a while to come up with some good food or snacks to eat while watching LOST. I wanted snacks that could either fit with themes from the show or try to emulate the LOST experience at home. The following list is my attempt, but I would love to hear ideas from fellow fans of the show. Of course all of our must try snacks come highly recommended.
1. Oreos – Way back in season 2 there was a brief image of “chocolate cream cookies.” This might be one of the few enjoyable snacks seen on the island that you can truly enjoy while watching the show. Plus, they symbolize the seemingly endless battle between black and white, good and evil, the others and the other others, Jacob and Black Smoke (who is also white actually, well at least for now). I vote for my tastebuds and eat them together.
2. Handi Snacks – This longtime snack could be featured both on and off the Island. Are they eating it now or in the past? In the future? Like Vegemite, this Munchies From My Past seems pretty close to something they would actually have had on the Island somewhere in “The Others'” camp. I mean you can’t get more long lasting and basic than crackers and fake cheese right? I could totally see Hurley eating these while driving the bug.
3. White Mystery Airheads – Airheads were a candy treat I loved as a kid, but the White Mystery Airheads are like the show in many ways. First off, they are ageless like Richard Alpert. Where are they from and, more importantly, when are they from? Also, you never seem to know which flavor you are eating: there are always theories but never an answer. Two people can eat the same one and come away with different conclusions, much like any ridiculously frustrating episode of the show I love so much.
4. Vegemite/Marmite – The black smoke of foods: whats it made of, where did it come from, how does it shapeshift? Why do some people like it yet most hate it? Do you eat it or does it eat you? Vegemite also seems like a snack they would have on LOST if the creators of the show were British/Aussie, I mean nobody over there eats peanut butter right? Enjoy the grossness and suffer like Kate and Sawyer do daily.
5. Coconuts/Mangoes/Bananas & other fruits – Primaries in the Island diet, you too can enjoy eating fruits! How do fruits end up on a mostly unhealthy snack blog you ask? Well these are the flash-sideways/alternate reality snacks featured on this list. You could always slap some peanut butter on them for some double lost, double snack deliciousness.
Here’s to great snacking during the better-answer-all-my-questions final season!
