When we opened and smelled the bag of Cheddar and Sour Cream Ruffles we didn’t get much, which led to complete amazement as the first bite was taken. The flavor magicians at Frito-Lay have created an absolutely delicious chip that blew us away in steps and surprised even our trained mouths.

Usually for a snack, I tell people that you can’t go wrong with standard Ruffles, that said, I typically stuck to plain given my lactose intolerance (see what I sacrifice for the love of snacks!). The Cheddar and Sour Cream Ruffles, however, are an amazing addition to an already great chip.

Ruffles, which have a slightly greasy texture and nice crunch (thanks to the “RRRRRidges”), are pretty basic and salty, but when you bite one of Cheddar and Sour Cream ones, your mouth is hit with the lovely taste of sour cream as if the chip was just dipped. I wondered, however, where the cheese flavor was amazed that just as the sour cream taste dissipated, it was instantly replaced by a perfect cheddar ending.

Each chip was a new surprise all over again, and emphasized the difference between chips like these, made by chip giant Frito Lay, and Lion Chips for instance. The flavor was perfectly crafted and the fact that two very distinct tastes (sour cream and cheddar) could hit independently, over a matter of seconds, shows that the company didn’t simply season these chips with the leftovers of the two varieties lying around in the factory.

These chips need absolutely no dip to go with, and have a nice enough flavor to not overpower as a side, while being more than adequate as a standalone munchie treat. If you are looking for a cheap(er) snack with a great taste, this is an absolute must munch.

A gold standard of flavored chips, if you ask me. Cheddar and sour cream — it’s like chocolate and peanut butter.

So, I had (surprisingly) never had this specific variety of Ruffles before, but after reading this glowing review I thought I would give them a shot. The review could not have been more perfect. It’s awesome having a snack resource like this. Thanks for the heads up!

Oh yes, these have been my favorite since I was in the 6th grade! (I am now 23 and I’m still a huge fan).

While these are tasty, the newer Ruffles Queso have them beat! They taste sort of the same but it’s like they were brushed with chili powder. A good cheese flavor and a nice spicy kick, not hot enough for me. But definitely good. Dunno if these are nation wide but I see them all over Southern California. They’re outstanding.

Thanks for the heads up, I’ll try to find a bag of these Queso chips you so highly recommend.

I ran into this blog when I googled “ruffles cheddar and sour cream salty”
Is it just me who thinks these are super salty? I thought the amount of salt were miss calculated or something. But it does taste good I’m eating them as I type 😀 I believe this is my first bag, but not sure if ill go back, its just too salty!

Too bad we don’t have Ruffles sold anymore here in Israel. 🙁
