Using Kettle Brand as your brand name as a kettle chip company is like walking up to a podium and claiming to be the best before anyone else has a chance to speak. It also means there is a good chance you will be tested for such a thing, and since that’s what we do at Munchies Blog, Kettle Brand’s Lightly Salted chips had a lot to prove in order for us to say their brand name was worthy of the chips they sell. Were they up to the task? Our mouths said yes.
Kettle Brand Lightly Salted chips come in a premium, thick bag that actually has a plastic interior as well to really preserve the flavor. In fact, the bags are so thick we wish they had a Ziploc like top so we could reuse them! The (obviously) kettle cooked chips smelled very potato-y and tasted very salty, which gains you points where we come from. They were thick and light and their crunch was loud. Some of the chips had brown edges from the cooking process, which is “always hand cooked.”
The salt crystals used were larger than the norm which is what helps to give them a strong flavor without actually being too salty. The potato taste was quite mild and was a good balance to the salt. All of the chips tasted delicious and although some looked overcooked on the edges, none of the chips we had were bad. Another plus for this snack was that not one chip in the bag was cracked or chipped, a testament to how well crafted both the snack and its packaging are.
As a premium chip with “Kettle Brand” written across the front, these chips stood up to our tests. The main factor that hurt them was that although they taste great, the bag felt a bit empty overall, which hurts when you are spending extra money for a snack. We hope to try some of their other flavors to see if their high quality chips remain tasty even with flavored seasoning.
