One of the oldest “non plain” snacks I can remember, Doritos Nacho Cheese can be found all over the world and are a delicious, cheesy corn chip. Once again I was fortunate enough to have some folks who had never tried the American, and I think most cheese tasty, version on hand to see how they enjoyed this classic chip.
The first thing you notice when you open a bag of Nacho Cheese Doritos is a very strong cheesy odor. Although you would normally expect a cheese snack to smell like, well real cheese, I have found that many snacks don’t, but there is no mistaking the smell of these. Although over the years the design of the bag which holds these bright red triangle corn chips has changed, thankfully, the delicious taste has not.
Each individual Dorito was well shaped and the corn chip they are based on has a nice crunch and corny taste without feeling like a Frito or Dipsy Doodles. They are bright red/orange and were evenly seasoned for the most part which is always important. Unlike their Cool Ranch cousin, don’t have a very strong “tang” to them and mostly your tongue is tickled by a little bit of spice that is then followed by an intense cheese flavor. They are not spicy hot at all and you can easily go through a bag of these without thinking twice which is what I assume most people do when eating them.
It was also nice to so several different types of cheeses listed on the back of the bag, which clearly contribute to the smell and taste of these chips. One thing we were disappointed to see was that our mini bag did not have as many chips in it as we would have liked. As classic as Lay’s, Doritos Nacho Cheese are an old standby you can enjoy alone or with friends, with a side or without depending on your tastes. I personally enjoy Cooler Ranch but you could really go either way. If you are looking for a cheesy corn chip Doritos Nacho Cheese are at the top of the hill.
